We have Smarty Streets Installed on the checkout page of our store and it works GREAT - but in order for it to work we needed to install small script in the top of the header of the page.
This new feature would be AWESOME if it worked. It doesn't work for us at all. Does our site need to be updated with a new release for smart streets to work on the back end?

I see there is a "Verify Addresses on One Page Checkout" option in the SmartyStreet App settings but seems to have no effect. What am I missing?

I spoke with support about this. The address verification on the One Page Checkout operates differently. Instead of verifying as you type the address, it verifies when a customer submits the order. It should create a popup if the address looks incorrect, asking the customer to go back and change it.

Are there any plans to change how SmartyStreets works on the checkout page so that it pulls up addresses as people type them in? That would help us a lot. Telling people after they place the order is kind of clunky and I can see us getting questions about their orders going through or duplicating. Seems cleaner and easier to have it as people type. Thanks!

As far as I've been able to tell, no. The current version of autocomplete that AmeriCommerce uses in the SmartyStreets integration is their old Standard Autocomplete. My account manager with SmartyStreets told me that this version is deprecated and no longer being supported. They're only continuing support on their Autocomplete Pro license, which is a separate service from the address verification, and therefore a separate fee. As far as I've been able to tell from talking with AmeriCommerce support, there are no plans to update the SmartyStreets integration to use a better, more accurate autocomplete service, let alone add that functionality to the One Page Checkout. They also do not seem to be changing a customer's ability to bypass that One Page Checkout address validation popup, making the validation more or less pointless (because one can bypass it). Maybe if enough of us let support know that this integration is severely lacking, they'd pass that onto the devs to work on updating so it's much more useful and customizable.

UPS is charging $18.00 for every incorrect address, and Smarty doesn't work at all. I'm looking at leaving Americommerce and moving to another platform that includes address verification as many others do.

It appears this is now totally broken, as our OPC wasn't working correctly and we were told to disable Smarty (streets) integration as a work around.  Instead of moving our stores forward, it seems AC/Cart is more interested in going backwards?  This is so very frustrating at times...!

FYI. Shipstation verifies addresses before shipping.

Hi Marvin, I'm aware of this.  I paid for the SS integration with AC many years ago.

The point here is correct the address at entry, not afterwards.  That's the main goal of having an address validation app or API active during the checkout process.

If you look at the history of this, you'll see that Paul (who I used to speak with personally at times) was doing his best to get this to work quite some time ago.  Several of us have (past tense) reached out to Smarty(streets) directly and they never could understand why AC wouldn't integrate the validation as it was meant to be?

No one could ever get it to work right and AC refused to make it work right, so it die on the vine, so to speak...

Yes I understand. I disabled on the front end long ago but still use in admin but we're considering canceling it because of the minimal utility since most orders are placed on the front end.
