Overview
SmartyStreets provides a street level validation and address suggestion service. With this integration enabled, street level look ups will be available from the admin's order edit screen and the customer's address book.
Note: The Autocomplete feature, functions in the admin order edit screen and admin customer address book, not on the checkout page. Addresses will be verified on the checkout page when the customer places their order.
How it Works
When typing in some areas of the admin, SmartyStreets will provide autocomplete suggestions. On the front end, it will display a pop-up to the customer if their address is incorrect when they place their order.
Admin Order Edit: When typing in the address on the admin order editor, Smarty streets will autosuggest matching addresses as seen below. When the

Copies these keys into Tools > Apps & Addons > SmartyStreets:
Zip code look ups are always available on these screens regardless of smartystreet integration. Typing a valid zip code and exiting will autocomplete the city and state.

We have Smarty Streets Installed on the checkout page of our store and it works GREAT - but in order for it to work we needed to install small script in the top of the header of the page.
This new feature would be AWESOME if it worked. It doesn't work for us at all. Does our site need to be updated with a new release for smart streets to work on the back end?
I see there is a "Verify Addresses on One Page Checkout" option in the SmartyStreet App settings but seems to have no effect. What am I missing?
I spoke with support about this. The address verification on the One Page Checkout operates differently. Instead of verifying as you type the address, it verifies when a customer submits the order. It should create a popup if the address looks incorrect, asking the customer to go back and change it.
Are there any plans to change how SmartyStreets works on the checkout page so that it pulls up addresses as people type them in? That would help us a lot. Telling people after they place the order is kind of clunky and I can see us getting questions about their orders going through or duplicating. Seems cleaner and easier to have it as people type. Thanks!
UPS is charging $18.00 for every incorrect address, and Smarty doesn't work at all. I'm looking at leaving Americommerce and moving to another platform that includes address verification as many others do.
